Training Counsellors/Psychotherapist - Longer courses. Training

JUNE 2021 8 day core training in Couples Counselling (56 hours CPD)

Add Couples Counselling to your practice with this 8 day course which is designed to help you work safely and effectively with couples. Over 180 Therapists successfully trained over the last 8 years.
This course will suit anyone who already is a qualified practitioner (Level 4 minimum) and with experience of the counselling process (more than 150 hours preferred - training placement hours can be counted) and is looking to extend their knowledge and experience of working in the interesting, demanding and fascinating world of couples counselling. It will not only build on your counselling knowledge in general but also on the practical and theoretical aspects of working with the couple dynamic.
You will develop the skills needed to offer couples counselling sessions which will help the couple to engage with and understand their contract, responsibilities, role, requirements and goals and to make changes in their relationships that create lasting change in how they relate to and feel about each other.
Once you have completed the training you will be suitably qualified to deliver Couples Counselling sessions.

What is the course structure?

The course is offered in two halves - attendance at all modules is required for Certification.
The first 4 days of the course is around core training delivered over 2 consecutive weekends with a closed learning group.

In these 4 core days you will learn about:
• Couple dynamics
• Therapeutic bonding
• Holding the balance
• Attachment and systemic theory
• Scripts and messages
• Couple fit
• Relationship styles
• Diversity and blended families
• Immediacy
• Perception and reality
• Communication
• Argument resolution
• Reflective practice

Course structure
The course also includes another 4 additional days of group learning.

In these 4 days you will be learning about:
Day 1 Working Online with Couples
Day 2 Genograms (family maps) and the gathering of engaging therapeutic information
Day 3 Sex and the symbolic understanding of the problem
Day 4 Working therapeutically with loss and rejection in the counselling room

Each day will begin at 10 am and finish at 4.30pm and will be hosted on the zoom video conferencing platform. This will allow us to meet online as a whole group and also utilise break out rooms for small group work and practice. As we are working online we will be careful to take regular breaks to account for screen time and take care of our individual energy levels.
